Talk to your kids about today's designer drugs.

A 2006 Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey survey found that few New Jersey parents reported being very knowledgeable about specific drugs, including:

Steroids 37%
Ecstasy 27%     Methamphetamines 35%
Inhalants 36%

The same survey also found that while 83% of New Jersey parents feel that their opinions are very important when it comes to their child’s decision whether or not to use drugs, less than a third (30%) responded in kind when asked if their children's friends are as important in the decision to use drugs and alcohol. This fact is particularly alarming considering  there is an abundance of studies linking peer influence to substance abuse.

Translation: It is very likely your child knows more about drugs and alcohol then you do and their greatest source of information is their friends.

GetSmartNJ.com was launched in October 2006 to assist New Jersey parents deal with the realities of substance abuse in our state, providing new drug information, tips for parents, and referral resources.
