Prescription/OTC Drugs

Prescribed or over-the-counter medications are abused to get a high.  Prescription medications can be taken in large doses or beyond the time period prescribed by a doctor.

There are different classes of medications: Tranquilizers  (Mebaral, Quaaludes, Xanax, Valium, Nembutal), Stimulants (Adderall, Dexedrine, Ritalin), and Pain Killers (Codeine, OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin).

The short term effects of individual drugs can vary, but a few examples are: Euphoric rush, mixing depressants and alcohol can be fatal, heart attack, lethal seizures, irritability, paranoia and suicidal ideation.

The long term effects of individual drugs can vary, but a few examples are: High risk of physical dependence, tolerance & withdrawal, restlessness, insomnia and muscle pain.
